Look Ahead: Seasonal Series - Autumn

Summer is in full swing and people are off on their holidays, which means soon enough, Autumn will be on its way. Here's a round-up of some useful ideas and 'How-to's for this time of year to consider for future KNX projects, or to discuss with clients at a maintenance visit.

Remote Access

Our home is our sanctuary and safe place, and often people worry about leaving their home when going away. Setting up remote access can give great peace of mind, but it can be practical too. Whether it's checking in on security cameras, or switching on the heating (or cooling) in advance of getting home, setting up remote access is a great feature and selling point for a smart home.

Although written in 2020, our article on KNXToday 'Offering customers peace of mind through KNX remote access' gives more detail about remote access solutions with KNX from iSE and Jung.

Similarly, here is our product guide 'Setting up the Gira X1 for remote access'.

Heating and Cooling

The changing of the seasons brings with it fluctuating temperatures. This offers a great opportunity to check in with your clients and customers if they have a maintenance plan to check up on the installation or to offer a maintenance visit or plan.

Heating and cooling systems are only serving the customer (and the environment) well if they are performing efficiently, so it's good to check-in in advance of a seasonal change as that is typically when niggles arise.

When it comes to working on new projects Intesis is one of our preferred brands for AC control and in this article 'HMS Intesis 700 AIR AC Interfaces' you can learn about the latest product releases.

Next up are two of our product guides that might come in handy for selecting and installing products - 'KNX Thermostats for Heating and Cooling' and 'Where should internal temperature sensors be placed'.

Lighting

With the changing light, it might prompt you or your future clients to think about lighting control. Earlier this year we wrote a blog about how KNX supports well-being and we touched on how KNX-controlled lighting can help our circadian rhythm.

If you're working on a current project, here's our guide on How to select which KNX Universal dimmer to use.

Interfacing with other systems

Whether it's a cinema and media room, a pool or gym, or a security system, there are a variety of ways to make sure that disparate systems are communicating with each other and are connected with the KNX installation. Check out this KNXToday article Top tips for interfacing with external systems and choosing the most suitable products.
